Regent Street, Shanklin
Street guide, Isle of Wight
A residential and commercial street in Shanklin connecting the High Street to the wider town. Regent Street has a mix of shops, guest houses, residential properties and a few restaurants. The street forms part of the network of roads that make up Shanklin's compact town centre. The buildings are mainly Victorian, built during the period when Shanklin was developing as a fashionable resort following the arrival of the railway. Some of the larger properties have been converted to guest houses or holiday accommodation, serving the seasonal visitor trade. The street is quieter than the High Street and the Esplanade but plays a useful role in the functioning of the town centre.
