St James's Street, Newport

A street running from St James's Square southward through the centre of Newport, connecting the High Street area to the lower part of town. St James's Street has a mix of shops, offices, pubs and residential properties. The architecture is predominantly Victorian with some Georgian survivals, giving the street a compact, urban character. Several of Newport's pubs are located on or near St James's Street, and it is one of the main evening economy streets in the town. The street leads towards the bus station and the river, making it a well-used route for pedestrians moving through the town centre.
