Quay Street, Yarmouth
Street guide, Isle of Wight
A short street in the centre of Yarmouth running from the town square towards the harbour and the quay. Quay Street has a handful of shops, a delicatessen, a pub and the kind of character that comes with a building stock dating back several centuries. The buildings are mostly Georgian and Victorian, built in local stone, and the scale is intimate. The street leads to the harbour, where yachts, fishing boats and dinghies crowd the moorings. Yarmouth Castle, built by Henry VIII, stands near the harbour entrance. Quay Street is at its liveliest during the summer sailing season, when the harbour is full and the restaurants and pubs are busy with yachtsmen and visitors arriving on the ferry from Lymington.
