High Street, Ryde
Street guide, Isle of Wight
Running parallel to Union Street a block to the east, Ryde High Street is part of the town's shopping core. The street is narrower and quieter than Union Street but has its own selection of shops, cafes and businesses. The buildings are mainly Victorian, with some Georgian survivals in the upper part of the street. The High Street connects to the network of side streets and lanes that give Ryde's town centre its character, including Star Street and Cross Street with their smaller independent shops. The street is less steep than Union Street but still climbs the hillside that defines Ryde's topography.
