Bridge Road, Yarmouth

Street guide, Isle of Wight

A road leading into Yarmouth from the east, crossing the River Yar by the bridge that gives it its name. Bridge Road connects the town to the wider island road network and is the main approach for traffic arriving from Newport and the east. The road has a mix of residential properties and a few commercial premises on the outskirts of the town, becoming more built up as it approaches the town centre. The bridge crosses the Yar estuary, a tidal waterway flanked by salt marshes and reedbeds that provide habitat for wading birds and wildfowl. The view from the bridge, looking down the estuary towards the Solent, is one of the quieter pleasures of the western end of the island.
