A residential road in Cowes running south from the town centre towards the outskirts. Birmingham Road has a mix of Victorian terraces, Edwardian semis and some later twentieth-century housing. The street is one of the main residential routes in Cowes, connecting the town centre to the southern suburbs and the roads towards Newport. The houses are modestly sized, and the street has a working, residential character quite different from the maritime glamour of the waterfront. Many residents are employed in the marine industry, local services or commute to Newport. The street is well served by the bus routes that run between Cowes and Newport.
