Yarmouth Castle

Historic Site, Isle of Wight

A small but well-preserved coastal artillery castle built by Henry VIII in 1547 to defend the western approaches to the Solent. It was the last of Henry's coastal forts to be built and has an unusual square plan. The castle stands beside the harbour in Yarmouth and is managed by English Heritage. The rooms display the history of the castle and the defence of the island's coast.
