Ryde Pier
Transport, Isle of Wight
One of the oldest seaside piers in England, extending half a mile into the Solent from Ryde Esplanade to the pier head, where the Wightlink catamaran arrives from Portsmouth. The pier carries the Island Line railway, a road and a pedestrian walkway. It is the main arrival point for foot passengers from the mainland and the gateway to the island for many visitors. The pier has been repaired and rebuilt many times since its original construction in 1814.
